it seems so early to me to be saying goodbye to summer. but here in the mountains, school has begun and there is a delicious chill in the morning air. last week we took a short drive through a few mountain villages to lake lure. we picnicked, the girls swam, we ate ice cream, we peeked and poked about small shops - it was perfect. this week, i finished the first of two books i am writing this year for chronicle and i feel as if i exhaled for the first time this summer.
last night we spent a pretty awesome evening at the hop with rabbit! and ryan. still floating on a bit of a high from the show.
maybe you could tell from the lack - or tone - of the posts, that it was a bit of a rough summer for us. the transition to asheville was good, though not necessarily smooth. but things are turning - slowly, which is the motion that seems to bring about more permanence. the house is finally beginning to feel like our home - it has taken me some time to grow an attachment to it - but everyday, i feel it tugging at me with gentle longing. and i think our puppy is finally adjusting - he had a rather tough go of it the first two months, but he is settling down as well. settling down. are we really ready to plant true roots somewhere? i think we might be.
this weekend we are heading to atlanta to spend the weekend with my cousins and aunt - the girls adore their aunties and you have to peek at lindsey's work - she runs a letterpress studio in atlanta called racing snail press and i shot some work for her website a couple of weeks ago. if you love polaroids, her letterpress albums are the best thing. ever.
more soon...
